5 Top Rules Improve Your Appearance

5 Top Rules Improve Your Appearance according to Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Francis Palmer

Dr Palmer identified a distinct pattern, the Palmer Code, to what is deemed youthful and attractive. His theory defines beauty’s components through a scientific formula based on shapes, proportions and angles of the face.

Although we recognise that his theory is valid, we recommend natural strategies – facial massage, facial exercise and good quality skincare – instead of Botox and fillers.

THE RULES

1. Shape the cheeks.

The cheeks account for 75% of facial aesthetics and as such, have the power to make the entire face appear youthful and attractive. Because the tissues of the face literally “hang by the cheek bones”, the cheek shape can dictate whether the face is perceived as young, old, attractive or less so. This should always be the first place you look to improve when seeking to become more attractive in a natural and youthful manner.

The aim is to create a fuller, rounder cheeks for women and lift the apple of the cheek up and facial massage and exercise are instrumental in achieving that./em>

2. Fill and plump up the lips.

The lips, to be aesthetically beautiful and balanced, should follow a very specific proportion of upper to lower lip. The upper lip should be no more than 75% of the lower lips size to achieve the perfectly proportioned lips.

Instead of fillers, facial massage, mainly Japanese Facelift, helps to define the upper lip line and enhance the lip volume.

3. Create a flared jaw line.

The proper size and shaped chin can balance the entire face when viewed on profile and sagging jawline is one of the most common concerns of my clients.

Facial massage and exercise are of benefit, particularly Chinese Booster.

4. Reduce lines and wrinkles.

All three types of facial massage can soften unwanted lines and wrinkles of the face, forehead and neck.

5. Even and bright skin with a peel.

Mild peels (glycolic, lactic or azelaic acid based) are a great way to refresh the skin along with a continued routine of sunscreens (UVA and UVB) and quality skin care products.

Q&A: What’s the best way to look after my skin when I go on holiday to a hot country?

August 16, 2011 Leave a comment

Travel represents a challenge to our skin and our daily skincare routines. When travelling to a hot climate, there are many factors which can influence the way our skin looks and feels. These include: higher temperatures and humidity levels, excessive sun exposure, disturbed sleep patterns, different time zones, changes to diet, washing in different water, using a sunscreen.

The golden rules that apply to every skin type are simple:

Keep your skin clean. Facial wipes are a great way to keep your skin clean when travelling. This recommendation is particularly valid for combination and oily skin types since regular cleansing helps to reduce the number of bacteria on facial skin and prevent the occasional spot.

Sun Prevention. Sun prevention is very important – both the UVA that ages our skin and the UVB that causes sunburn and skin cancer. I recommend SPF 30 – 50 and 4 – 5 star protection on holidays. Suncare products usually have richer textures and to be well-protected, we have to use more of the product than we would do when using our day moisturiser. Diligent cleansing at night and applying a hydrating serum and a lighter moisturiser to regenerate our skin are highly recommended. Also avoiding the mid day sun from 10am – 4pm is advisable.

Re-hydrate. Holidays in the sun represent a challenge for our skin hydration levels. Using hydrating masks twice a week can repair the damage that might otherwise lead to premature signs of ageing in years to come. Drinking more water to counter the effect of higher temperatures and increased perspiration also benefits our skin.

The Sensory Connection in Skincare

Do you like your skincare? How does your skin feel after you apply your moisturiser? What about the texture? And scent? Does it absorb instantly or leave a residue?  Is it too rich or not enough?

That is a very subjective question that underpins the efficacy of your skincare. Your perception of whether “a product works” is also influenced by your feelings about the skincare formulation.

Different people with different skin types have different views and expectations, although they usually cannot articulate them. That is why we read reviews about a product being too rich or not rich enough and our view differs.

Skincare manufacturers attemtp to buld this “sensory connection” into the skincare to complement the product story and efficacy. They know that we need to fall in love with our skincare to buy it again and apply it diligently every day.

Using the left brain and right brain analogy – the rationale of efficacy and the sensory connection both have to be right!

Is your skincare working for you?
